Hypnosis for Anxiety

March 28, 2022 | Published by

Approximately 8 million people in the UK suffer from some form of anxiety disorder. Anxiety is not the same as feeling stressed but is a disorder that persists whether the sufferer knows what the cause of it is or not.

There are no obvious external factors; however, for many, anxiety can manifest with both emotional and physical symptoms. Physical symptoms could come in sleep problems, stomach issues, grinding teeth, nausea, feeling restless, or headaches.

Emotionally, many who suffer from anxiety feel fearful and overwhelmed. They could feel unable to stop worrying or carry out everyday tasks, which can lead to them feeling isolated.

Hypnosis can be an effective method of treating anxiety, as it helps induce a deep level of relaxation. This relaxation can enable therapists to help sufferers understand and overcome unhelpful and often repetitive anxious thoughts and behaviours.

Let’s take a look into what hypnosis is and some of the benefits it can give to those suffering from anxiety.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Despite some films portraying hypnosis as a quirky form of therapy that involves too much eye contact and loss of control, the reality is far from this. Instead, hypnosis for anxiety helps induce a deep state of relaxation, concentration, and focus, just like a deep form of meditation would.

For some, this feeling can feel similar to a sleep-like state, and in a way, it is. However, this is just a feeling of relaxation and focus and is intended to help you be more open to suggestions and guidance.

Your hypnotherapy for anxiety audio will guide you into a relaxed state meditation techniques,  verbal cues and repetition. Some hypnosis involves self-talk, visualisation, or music, though the aim of inducing relaxation and focus is the same.

When in this state, you are still fully aware of what is going on. However, the relaxed state should open you up to explore the root cause of anxiety. This is especially useful if you’re unsure what that could be and, as such, allows your subconscious mind to begin offering suggestions to help combat your anxiety.

As hypnotherapists, we aim to work with both your conscious and unconscious mind to help you achieve your therapy goals. The focus on your subconscious mind will allow you to potentially explore deeper into your issues, and to help you feel safe and secure whilst we guide you through the process of self healing and a calmer state of mind.

To complete the session, you will be guided out of the relaxed state so you can begin using the relaxation techniques and self-hypnosis methods in the comfort of your own home at a time that is convenient to you.

What Are the Benefits of Hypnosis for Anxiety?

In 2016, a study was done that scanned the brains of people undergoing guided hypnosis sessions. The study found that hypnosis induces several things, including focused attention, less self-consciousness, and greater control physically and emotionally.

Some of the other benefits hypnosis can have include:

  • Reduction of stress and anxiety
  • Coping techniques
  • A better understanding of the root of the issue
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Improve physical problems associated with anxiety

Is It Right for Me?

Only you know whether hypnosis could be the proper treatment for your anxiety. However, as this article suggests, hypnosis can provide an effective method for tackling unhealthy thoughts and behaviours.

Hypnosis aims to get to the root of an issue and help to give you coping techniques to free you from the fear and overwhelming feelings that anxiety can cause suffers. It’s about giving you back control of your emotions rather than your emotions controlling you.
